Book Wizards 2025

On 25 January 2025, Hwa Chong Institution reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) at the opening ceremony of Book Wizards 2025. Looking ahead, Hwa Chong aims to expand its contributions through increased volunteer participation and deeper involvement in the programme’s planning. The school also hopes to broaden its collaboration with SINDA to support more initiatives that give back to the community.

Launched in June 2024, the Book Wizards programme focuses on developing phonological awareness and literacy skills through experiential learning while fostering social-emotional growth in both volunteers and beneficiaries. Over 20 weeks, 25 Hwa Chong students mentored children from underprivileged backgrounds, using the Timmy and Tammy book series to teach English. Their efforts extended beyond traditional learning sessions, as they accompanied the children on experiential learning journeys to places featured in the books, such as the Night Safari and Bird Paradise. This mix of online and in-person interactions not only enriched the children’s learning but also allowed Hwa Chong students to form meaningful connections with their Book Wizards students and their families.

With a strengthened commitment and a growing community of volunteers, Hwa Chong looks forward to making an even greater impact in 2025 and beyond.
