Defence Scholarship Awards 2024

Congratulations to our Hwa Chongians who received Defence Scholarships at the Defence Scholarship Awards Ceremony (DSAC) on 1 Aug 2024! 

The awardees were honored at the Temasek Club by Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen. These prestigious scholarships recognise their academic excellence and leadership potential, preparing them for vital roles in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the wider defence sector. 

In his speech, Dr Ng highlighted the enduring significance of the Defence Scholarship since its inception in 1971. He reflected on how the scholarship, once a bold and untested idea, has become vital in attracting Singapore’s most capable individuals to careers in defence, producing leaders like Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Dr Ng underscored the importance of maintaining a strong SAF amidst global uncertainties, drawing comparisons with other countries that have taken different defence paths.
