Inspiring Teacher of English Award 2023 (Teaching Award) Heng Siok Tian

A big congratulations to Hwa Chong Institution (College) teacher, Ms Heng Siok Tian, for being conferred this year’s Inspiring Teacher of English Award. Out of 120 nominations received this year, only five recipients were awarded for the teaching of English, and Ms Heng was one of them.

The Inspiring Teacher of English Award is a national award for English teachers who ignite a love for the English language in their students. This award is presented by the Speak Good English Movement and The Straits Times, with support from the Ministry of Education.

The award ceremony was held on 5 Oct 2023 and graced by Guest-of-Honour, Director-General for Education, Ministry of Education, Ms Liew Wei Li, who presented the Inspiring Teacher of English Award (ITEA) to the recipients. 

On Ms Heng’s passion for teaching, she has this to say: “It is indeed a privileged position to explore the beauty and power of words and language with my students, and to spend valuable moments cherishing the craft and voices of writers beyond the classroom.”
